“This budget proposal from the Biden administration puts students first and makes the largest investment in the U.S. Education Department since its inception. This is an important follow-up to the investment in schools and families made through the American Rescue Plan to help recover from the pandemic. In particular, we are excited to see an increase in Title 1 of $20 billion and an additional $1 billion for schools to help meet the social and emotional needs of students, post-pandemic, with school counselors, nurses, social workers, and mental health professionals. We also are encouraged to see a 10% increase in funding for the U.S. Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights after it was gutted by the previous administration. This budget makes an important investment in students by increasing Pell Grants and allowing DACA recipients to qualify for the grants. Our budgets show what we value—and this budget is very clear that students and families are a priority.”
