Equity and ESSA: Using ESSA and the New Regulations to Advance Educational Opportunity

On December 14, 2016 the Alliance for Excellent Education and the Learning Policy Institute (LPI) held a webinar on using the new Every Student Succeeds Act regulations to advance equity and educational opportunity. Designed for state policymakers and education stakeholders, the webinar focused on how states can effectively design multiple-measure accountability systems to assess overall school performance and progress—including gaps in student performance—and drive evidence-based interventions and continuous improvement across all schools and for all students.
Presenters described the opportunities and requirements within the U.S. Department of Education’s accountability regulations and shared findings from LPI, the Alliance, and the CORE-PACE Research Partnership that detail how multiple measures can be a strategic tool to advance equity and deeper learning in the nation’s schools without masking the performance of student subgroups.
