2025 has been a rollercoaster for our nationโs public schools.
From shifting federal priorities to deep budget uncertainty, educators, families, and students have faced a year of instability and unprecedented challenges.
And as we close out the year, one thing is clear: public education is facing extraordinary uncertaintyโand unprecedented threats.
Weโve seen deep proposed cuts to the U.S. Department of Educationโcuts that would weaken oversight, reduce critical student supports, and roll back long-standing equity protections.
This year also brought massive layoffs across federal education offices and troubling efforts to dismantle or relocate core education functions to other agencies, including the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, Justice, and Interior.
These moves donโt just shift bureaucracyโthey risk fragmenting education policy, blurring accountability, and undermining the systems designed to protect students, teachers, and families.
The U.S. Department of Education is facing unprecedented threats that would weaken federal oversight, roll back equity protections, and put critical student supports at risk.
In moments like this, every policy decision matters.
Protections for students, educators, and parents are all under assaultโfrom civil rights enforcement to access to financial aid, from educator support to pathways that help learners succeed beyond high school.
And as 2025 comes to an end, we still do not know the U.S. Department of Educationโs final budget because Congress hasn’t agreed on a single bill, and different factions propose drastically different spending levels and priorities, leading to ongoing debate.
That uncertainty continues to create instability for students, educators, states, and school districts trying to plan for the year ahead.
As we head into the new year, All4Edโs commitment to public education remains steadfast. We will continue to monitor developments closely, hold policymakers accountable, and stand as a champion for a public education system that is strong, inclusive, and designed to serveโฏallโฏstudentsโno matter their background, zip code, or circumstance.
