On June 6, 2017 the Alliance for Excellent Education and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) gave a presentation and discussion of a new report from the OECD.
Students’ Well-Being: PISA 2015 Results analyzes for the first time students’ motivation to perform well in school, their relationships with peers and teachers, their home life, and how they spend their time outside of school. The findings are based on a survey of 540,000 students in seventy-two participating countries and economies who also completed the main OECD 2015 PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) test on science, mathematics, and reading.
“Schools are not just places where students acquire academic skills,” said the OECD’s Andreas Schleicher, director for education and skills and special advisor on education policy to the Secretary-General. “They also help students become more resilient in the face of adversity, feel more connected with the people around them, and aim higher in their aspirations for their future. Not least, schools are the first place where children experience society in all its facets, and those experiences can have a profound influence on students’ attitudes and behaviour in life.”
The webinar began with a detailed presentation from Mr. Schleicher, and panelists addressed questions from the online audience.
