Personalized Professional Learning in a Digital Age Webinar/Event

December 23, 2014

On January 8, 2015 the Alliance for Excellent Education hosted a webinar in its Project 24 leadership series. For years, the top-down, one-size-fits-all approach to professional learning has been prevalent in schools across the nation. Educators are often brought into large group rooms and a “sit and get” model of professional learning is utilized. Quite often, educators are left feeling frustrated and districts wonder why there is little evidence of impact in a traditional model. In recent years, the concept of educators being empowered to take charge of their own professional learning has gained momentum.

Creating a Positive School Climate: Supporting Great Teaching Webinar/Event

September 08, 2014

Closing achievement and high school graduation rate gaps requires comprehensive school reform that includes a positive school climate that meets and develops the academic, social, and emotional needs of every student. Teachers are a vital part in creating a school climate that meets these needs and prepares students for college and a career. According to the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, schools with the largest populations of students of color are twice as likely as schools with smallest populations of students of color to employ teachers who have only one to two years of classroom teaching experience. In addition, numerous studies indicate that students of color, students with disabilities, and students from low-income families have less access to teachers with the proper credentials and subject-area expertise.

Next-Generation Standards and Accreditation Policies for Teacher Preparation and Development Webinar/Event

August 09, 2013

The Alliance, CCSSO, and CAEP held a webinar on the InTASC (Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium) Model Core Teaching Standards and Learning Progressions for Teachers 1.0. These standards and progressions-which define what teachers should know and be able to do to ensure every graduate is ready for college and a career-have been integrated into CAEP's proposed accreditation standards for teacher preparation programs. Together, these revised standards set forth a new vision of teaching that empowers learners in attaining twenty-first-century knowledge and skills, values diversity, and leverages technology and changing learning environments.
