“Gen. Colin Powell not only broke barriers as the first Black Secretary of State, he also championed a national movement to improve the lives and futures of our youth — from increasing high school graduation rates to healthier living. As the founding chairman of the America’s Promise Alliance more than two decades ago, Gen. Powell and his wife, Alma, along with their son, Michael, have worked tirelessly to make children and youth a national priority. We send our heartfelt condolences to the Powell family and know that Gen. Powell’s legacy will impact students and families for generations to come.”
