“We celebrate this Teacher Appreciation Day after two of the most challenging academic years in modern history. Whether it’s keeping students engaged in learning despite shuttered school buildings or returning to in-person learning amid so much uncertainty during a deadly pandemic, our educators continue to be the bedrock of our nation. They are far too often the unsung heroes of public service. While we are grateful for a chance to show our appreciation today, we know that, as a country, we must do more at every level of government and across the private sector to support our teachers for their relentless work on behalf of our children. We need to develop stronger policies and programs that show educators — day in and day out — that their work is critical to this country. Teachers deserve better pay, safe and welcoming working conditions, strong professional development and opportunities for leadership and growth, and unyielding support from their communities. Our country’s future depends upon all of America’s youth receiving an excellent education, and teachers will deliver. Let’s show them the respect they deserve. Thank you, teachers, for all you do every day.”
