Gov. Bob Wise Comments on President Obama’s Budget Proposal

WASHINGTON, DC – This morning, President Obama released his Fiscal Year 2016 budget proposal, which includes a new $125 million competitive grant program that would promote the redesign of America’s high schools. In response, Bob Wise, president of the Alliance for Excellent Education and former governor of West Virginia, made the following statement:

“Students of color and low-income students now represent the majority of the nation’s students, but they remain in the minority when it comes to access to the excellent teachers and schools they need to succeed in today’s economy.

“President Obama’s high school redesign program would target these students and ensure that they graduate from high school with the deep content knowledge, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and other skills that prepare them for college and today’s fastest-growing jobs.”
