Washington, DC—“The American people have sent a clear message: it’s time for new leadership in the White House. We look forward to hearing more from President-elect Biden about his plans to provide much-needed and immediate relief to the schools and families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, including passing key legislation that would ensure every family has access to high-speed home internet and devices for virtual learning and give districts resources to address learning loss and accelerate students’ academic progress. We need a plan to improve public education that corrects historical and long-standing inequities. For four years, educational equity and civil rights protections have been intentionally eroded, and we look forward to swift action from the new administration on policies that ensure that every student—no matter his or her race, religion, background, or ZIP code—can thrive. This is a time for real leadership from the new administration to help our country heal from the devastation of this pandemic and of the last four years of active dismantling of public education.”
