Washington, D.C. — “Today’s inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris is the first step in turning the page on the last four years and beginning to rebuild the promise of our country. We look forward to hearing more from the Biden administration and the next education secretary, Dr. Miguel Cardona, on their plans to provide much-needed and immediate relief to schools and families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is vital to pass key legislation that ensures every family has access to high-speed home internet and devices for remote learning and provide districts with essential resources to address learning loss and accelerate students’ academic progress. We need a comprehensive plan to improve public education that corrects long-standing inequities, including the restoration of civil rights protections that have been intentionally eroded during the Trump era. We look forward to swift action from the new administration on policies that ensure that all students—no matter their race, religion, background, or ZIP code—can thrive. Our youth deserve the best we can offer.”
