“We applaud Congress for passing the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which is a step in the right direction on an issue that has been stagnant for far too long. While this bill makes modest progress on gun control, it’s the first time in 26 years that we’ve seen movement on an issue that impacts schools and communities daily. We are encouraged by the additional investments in school safety and student mental health, though it’s important to recognize that those are not the root of the nation’s problems – easy access to guns is the issue that we need to resolved to keep our kids and communities safe. We look forward to President Biden signing this bill, and hope this is only the first step in securing policies that will keep our children safe from gun violence.”
