“The $3.5 trillion budget resolution provides bold, sweeping investments in our country, our children and our families—now and into the future. The budget not only includes President Biden’s expansion of free public education by four years—two years of preschool and two years of college—but it also supports key investments in families such as an expansion of the child tax credit and high-quality child care. As we expand community college, we must ensure college completion—not just enrollment—remains the goal. A free community college program must also apply to high school students taking dual enrollment courses that allow them to earn college credit before they graduate, a proven strategy for increasing college attainment for students, particularly the most vulnerable. In addition to these critical budget investments, we also urge Congress to incorporate continued funding for the Emergency Connectivity Fund to help close the homework gap for millions of students. These investments create a clear path for all students to get the preparation needed to achieve their dreams. We look forward to working with Congress to ensure these priorities are included in the final budget.”
