“The Alliance for Excellent Education congratulates Dr. Miguel Cardona on a successful hearing before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions and urges the members to approve his nomination for U.S secretary of education as swiftly as possible. Dr. Cardona is the leader needed at this moment in time to reinstate respect, vision, and leadership to the U.S. Department of Education. After four years of the Trump administration actively dismantling public education—including nearly a year of severe disruption to student learning because of COVID-19—our country needs a new education leader in place as soon as possible. We need a secretary to take immediate action on policies that ensure all students—no matter their race, religion, background, or ZIP code—can thrive. Students, families, and educators deserve nothing less.”
