The promising practices, recommendations, and lessons learned inform a collective effort, led by NCTAF, around supporting great teaching. This joint webinar focused on an important component of effective professional learning: maximizing teacher agency. What are the practices and conditions that draw upon educator expertise, build their capacity to become good consumers of professional learning, and give them choices that lead to improvements in the instructional practice they most need to improve student learning?

On October 2, 2015, the Alliance for Excellent Education and Asia Society held a webinar on the pressing need and vast opportunity to prepare students for a range of meaningful career opportunities through apprenticeships. The Asia Society’s Global Cities Education Network works to identify international best practice in creating robust approaches to career preparation pathways. The webinar explored how the U.S. education system can connect the needs of adolescents with the needs of the economy and signal to employers that high school graduates have the requisite skills and knowledge for high-need, high-skill positions.

On July 23, 2015, the Alliance held a webinar featuring a School Improvement Grant (SIG)–approved evidence-based whole-school reform model developed by the Institute for Student Achievement (ISA), which gave school districts (both SIG-receiving and non–SIG-receiving) an overview of ISA’s effective high school reform model that could turn around their persistently low-performing high schools.
