This Thursday – Deeper Learning: So Everyone Can Succeed in a Changing World
On Thursday, February 24 from 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm, EST, the Alliance for Excellent Education will host a webinar that explores the concept of deeper learning and how this important initiative can increase economic opportunity and civic engagement by educating students for a changing world. Deeper Learning first and foremost prepares students to know and understand core academic content, but it also places equal importance on a student’s ability to think critically and solve complex problems, work collaboratively, communicate effectively and be a self-directed learner, all of which are vital competencies for success in the modern workforce.
The webinar will feature Alliance President Bob Wise; Barbara Chow, Program Director of Education at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation; and Andreas Schleicher, head of indicators and analysis division, Directorate for Education, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. This Friday – High-Leverage Partnerships to Transform the High School Experience
On Friday, February 25 from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm, EST, the Alliance will host a conversation with two educational leaders—Michele Cahill and Robert Hughes—to talk about their respective roles in the redesign of secondary education in New York City that resulted in a more than 20 percent increase in the graduation rate—the largest in decades. The webinar will address the district role in managing a portfolio of schools by maximizing partnerships with external organizations to fashion the elements of the reform. It will focus on the lessons learned from this partnership that can help districts and states create innovative solutions to improve the outcomes of public school students, regardless of race or economic class.
