In 2009, 41% of children born in the USA were born to unmarried mothers (up from 5% a half-century ago). That includes 73% of non-Hispanic black children, 53% of Hispanic children and 29% of non-Hispanic white children. –USA Today
Nearly half of voters in 11 Massachusetts cities give their public schools a grade of A or B and just 12 percent rate their schools D or F, according to poll results released yesterday. –The Boston Globe
On the most recent nationwide science test, 34% of fourth-graders, 30% of eighth-graders, and 21% of twelfth-graders performed at or above the Proficient level.
