Project 24 MOOC-Ed Registration Open For January 2014

Would you like to join colleagues from around the country and the world to learn more about the Digital Learning Transition? The Alliance for Excellent Education, in partnership with the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation at NC State University, is pleased to announce that registration is open for the Planning for the Digital Learning Transition in K-12 Schools massive online open course for educators (DLT MOOC-Ed). This course utilizes the Alliance’s Project 24 Framework and involves experts from across the country and will be in two parts. The nine-week experience kicks off January 20.

Part I: Where Are We Heading? Goals for the Digital Learning Transition: Part I focuses on the big picture of envisioning the future of schools, changing the culture of teaching and learning, and digital learning transitions in some exemplary schools and districts.

Part II: How Do We Get There? Planning for a Digital Learning Transition: Part II focuses on planning to address professional development, technology infrastructure, community engagement, use of data, and other elements of successful DLT plans.

The DLT MOOC-Ed is designed for school and district leaders, such as superintendents, principals, curriculum directors, technology directors, financial officers, principals, instructional coaches, library media specialists, and lead teachers, as well as university faculty, consultants, parents and any others involved in planning and implementing K-12 digital learning initiatives.

A few comments from previous participants include:

  • “No matter the issue I was thinking about or planning to work on, someone had a suggestion or was already working on a similar area. The dialogue and resources were timely and thought provoking as well as helpful.”
  • “The fact that I could choose the resource that fit my style was one of the most valuable pieces to this course for me. The other was reading the responses of other participants. Sharing resources, plans, pitfalls, and celebrations of folks from so many different economic and sociological backgrounds really helped one feel ‘We are not in this alone’ and gave me the Inspiration to push administration for more tech focused professional development. I shared some resources from this class with administration and followed up by asking for a workshop day devoted to tech. After two years of ‘no time for this,’ a full day was granted.”
  • “I agree with many of the others when it comes to resources and colleague communication, but actually taking the time to view these and focus on them is a really big deal. I think everyone in education is busy with the day-to-day operations of schools, but we need to put aside time to grow and develop! This course was a great opportunity to grow in the area of digital learning and I am glad that I took the time to let it sink in.”

We invite participation from public, charter and private schools. While the course materials are U.S. focused, we invite educators from around the world and found that international perspectives enriched the experience for everyone in prior courses. There is no cost for participating in the DLT MOOC-Ed.

We recommend, when possible, participation by teams from schools, districts or other organizations, since having local colleagues work together to relate the lessons from the DLT MOOC-Ed to their own context makes the course even more valuable. If a team is not available, individuals are welcome to participate on their own.
