Statement from the Alliance for Excellent Education in Response to President Bush’s State of the Union Speech
The Alliance for Excellent Education applauds the president for his continuing commitment to better preparing our nation’s students for the challenges of tomorrow, and for his desire to improve our high schools so that “every…diploma is a ticket to success.”
Following President Bush’s State of the Union address, the Alliance’s president, former West Virginia governor Bob Wise, was hopeful. “I am pleased that the president made improving high schools the first priority of his speech,” Wise said. “We are looking forward to working with the Administration and Congress in designing and implementing effective policies and programs that will provide the educational supports that all students need. This won’t be an easy task, but the economic future of the country depends on our willingness to work together to ensure that our kids graduate from high school prepared for postsecondary education and success in life.”
