Statement from Bob Wise, President of the Alliance for Excellent Education, on President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2010 Budget
On February 26, President Barack Obama released a summary of his Fiscal Year 2010 budget. In response, Bob Wise, president of the Alliance for Excellent Education and former governor of West Virginia, issued the following statement:
“Regardless of how the Fiscal Year 2010 budget numbers work out, they will be joined with the single largest investment in education in the nation’s history, thanks to the recently enacted stimulus bill. For this year, the issue for education isn’t money, it’s reform. That is why I look forward to working with President Obama and the Congress to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and make the systemic reforms that are necessary to put an end to a dropout crisis that claims over 1.2 million students each year.”
