Press Release:

Former NAACP Education Director Michael Wotorson Joins Alliance for Excellent Education as Director of Community Partnerships

Michaevl Wotorson has been named Director of Community Partnerships at the Alliance for Excellent Education. The new appointment was announced today by Bob Wise, president of the Alliance for Excellent Education and former governor of West Virginia.

As a senior member of the Alliance’s staff, Wotorson will be responsible for supervising and implementing the Alliance’s civil rights initiatives, including its collaboration with the Campaign for High School Equity (CHSE), an unprecedented partnership of nine of the nation’s major organizations representing communities of color.

“Michael’s experience as a policy expert and advocate combines message and action,” says Wise. “We are excited that he is working with us to identify and advocate for policies and strategies that will benefit our nation’s students and make positive changes in America’s high schools.”

Wotorson came to the Alliance from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), where he served as the national education director, supervising the NAACP’s education advocacy initiatives with a particular focus on racial and ethnic disparities in education equity. Previously, he ran his own education-oriented consulting firm, The Wotorson Group, where clients included the District of Columbia Public Schools, the Mid-Atlantic Equity Center, and the Embassy of the Republic of Liberia. Wotorson also served as a program director of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund.
