Bob Wise, President of the Alliance for Excellent Education, Reacts to Campaign by America’s Promise Alliance to Address Dropout Crisis
Bob Wise, president of the Alliance for Excellent Education and former governor of West Virginia, issued the following statement today as the America’s Promise Alliance announced a new report, Cities in Crisis: A Special Analytics Report on High School Graduation, and a national campaign to combat the nation’s dropout and college-readiness crisis:
“This new report spells out the hard truth—that graduation rates across the nation remain shockingly low and our cities are especially vulnerable. The national campaign announced today by the America’s Promise Alliance, of which the Alliance for Excellent Education is a proud member, will move solutions forward by focusing on local, state, and federal partnerships as the means for change.
“The goals of the Dropout Prevention Summits are ambitious and attainable. Just as we should demand more from our students, we should demand more from ourselves by setting higher expectations supported by determination and resources. All of us at the Alliance for Excellent Education look forward to partnering with America’s Promise to ensure every child graduates from high school with a high-quality diploma ready for success in college and the workforce.”
