Bob Wise, President of the Alliance for Excellent Education, Reacts to “2004 NAEP Trends in Academic Progress”
Reacting to the “2004 NAEP Trends in Academic Progress” released today, the president of the Alliance for Excellent Education, Governor Bob Wise, said: “These results are analogous to a builder helping someone to lay the foundation of a house, but leaving them alone to put up the walls, windows, doors, and roof. Our students are getting the help they need to become proficient readers in the early grades, but are not being supported in building the vocabulary and comprehension skills they need to deal with the more complex materials they are expected to read in middle and high school.”
