Bob Wise, President of the Alliance for Excellent Education, Issues Statement on Reforming Federal Student Aid
Bob Wise, president of the Alliance for Excellent Education and former governor of West Virginia, has issued the following statement in conjunction with his participation in today’s Capitol Hill policy forum on Fulfilling the Commitment: Recommendations for Reforming Federal Student Aid, a new report issued by the Rethinking Student Aid study group convened by the College Board:
“The report is generating soul-searching in policy, lending, and higher education circles by challenging some decades-old assumptions about student aid.
“As college becomes increasingly unaffordable for families, there must be a bolder approach to student aid. Increasingly, earning a living wage in this country requires postsecondary education, but the current system discourages many students from attempting to go to college or saddles them with crippling debt. The College Board is to be commended for focusing the conversation on the need for reform and proposing new ways to make college more affordable.”
