Bob Wise, President of Alliance for Excellent Education, Reacts to “Tough Choices or Tough Times” Report
Bob Wise, president of the Alliance for Excellent Education and former governor of West Virginia, reacted today to the release of Tough Choices or Tough Times: The Report of the New Commission on the Skills of the American Workforce from the National Center on Education and the Economy:
“Tough Choice or Tough Times means our education system requires tough love. Relentlessly growing global competition has changed how we do business. Likewise, our educational system can no longer be business as usual. With two out of three U.S. students finishing their high school years unprepared for the modern workplace, the nation must enact massive education reforms now to preserve its economic security and our young people’s future.
“The Alliance for Excellent Education, which advocates for secondary school reform to ensure students are prepared for success in today’s marketplace, applauds the NCEE for its bold proposals. The report shines a sometimes harsh light on the realities of our declining global position, and provides exciting options for consideration.”
