Alliance for Excellent Education Releases Toolkits for School Leaders on Opportunities Within ESSA to Transform High Schools

Toolkits Unveiled at White House Summit

WASHINGTON, DC – At today’s second annual White House Summit on Next Generation High Schools, the Alliance for Excellent Education released a series of toolkits to help school leaders leverage opportunities available in the new Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) to transform high schools.

“The Every Student Succeeds Act puts states and school districts in the driver’s seat,” said Bob Wise, president of the Alliance for Excellent Education. “These toolkits can serve as an educational GPS device for school leaders making the journey to improve student outcomes. These easy-to-use toolkits navigate research and federal policy and provide turn-by-turn instructions and actionable recommendations for state and district policies and practices that can bolster college and career readiness of all students, particularly students who have been traditionally underserved.”

Each toolkit, “Opportunities to Create Next-Generation High Schools: A Toolkit for Education Leaders,” highlights specific opportunities that, if implemented well, can greatly expand opportunities for traditionally underserved students.

Toolkits are currently available for (1) early college high school and dual-enrollment programs; (2) Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs; (3) deeper learning; (4) personalized learning; and (5) career and technical education. (These are large files. Please allow sufficient time for download.)

The toolkits are flexible and designed to meet the needs of individual school and district leaders. Each toolkit includes a table of contents for easy navigation and may be used in its totality or broken out into segments and repurposed to meet the needs of a particular audience or to highlight information on particular policy or practice related issues.

Toolkits are available for download at https://all4ed.org/nghs/.
