West Virginia Board of Education examines value of 180-day school calendar
Advancements in technology will enable state educators to abandon a “time-based” system of learning and move into a “competency-based” system that could replace the 180-day school calendar, West Virginia Board of Education President Gayle Manchin and former governor Bob Wise stated Thursday. The “180-day” calendar year could be traded for a “balanced calendar” — or year-round calendar, officials said. No time frame was mentioned on the possible move from the current educational system.
