Wausau schools move toward computers for all students

A report released Sept. 10 by the Alliance for Excellent Education, a Washington, D.C., educational policy and advocacy organization, also bolsters that notion. Done in partnership with the Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education, researchers found that technology can play a significant role in helping students at risk of failure make academic gains. However, the study concludes, teachers must know how to use devices effectively for the gains to made. “Replacing teachers with technology is not a successful formula,” said Bob Wise, president of the Alliance and former governor of West Virginia. “Instead, strong gains in achievement occur by pairing technology with classroom teachers who provide real-time support and encouragement to underserved students.”
