Virginia Daily Press talks teacher turnover in VA following Alliance teacher report
A study released last week says teacher turnover costs Virginia nearly $53 million annually. The report, done by the Alliance for Excellent Education, a Washington-based think tank that lobbies for at-risk schools, says the state pays an inordinate amount because of the costs of attrition for new teachers. Meg Gruber, president of the Virginia Educators Association, issued a statement as a result of the study calling for increased teacher salaries and additional support to promote retention. "The revolving door that exists in some school divisions is a clear barrier to the success of students who attend their schools," Gruber said.
