No Child Left Behind revamp sought, but no clear fix
When Congress passed the No Child Left Behind Act in 2001, the vote was overwhelmingly bipartisan, with Democrats such as Sherrod Brown and Republicans such as Rob Portman both supporting the legislation."Everyone wants to vote against No Child Left Behind," said Phillip Lovell, a lobbyist for the Alliance for Excellent Education, a Washington policy group that advocates for at-risk students. But "there's an ocean larger than the Pacific," he said, dividing Democrats and Republicans on how to replace the measure.
