ANOTHER VIEW: The dropout disgrace
We hear a lot about the rising unemployment rate and national debt. But one critical factor that powerfully affects both of these seems to get little attention. It's the high school dropout rate, a national disgrace that will continue to undermine any economic progress we manage to make until it's lowered, significantly. A brief on this issue was released last week by the Alliance for Excellent Education. "The High Cost of High School Dropouts: What the Nation Pays for Inadequate High Schools" is an eye-opener that demands the attention of Americans.
