The Christian Science Monitor covers a new NAACP report asking, educate or incarcerate?

Education Week blogger Sarah Sparks writes about a new study finding that third grade reading predicts later high school graduation.

The New York Times has several stories about Cathleen P. Black resigning as New York City’s school chancellor here and here and one story on the new nominee for the position – Dennis Walcott.

In his School of Thought blog for TIME Magazine, Andrew Rotherham writes, “Low Graduation Rates: It’s Not Just Student Athletes.”

The Miami Herald reports on Florida legislation that would require every high school student to take at least one online course to graduate.  On a related note, the Oklahoman editorial board writes, “If school districts across Oklahoma aren’t thinking about offering online classes, then they’re out of step with today’s digital world.”

West Virginia Public Broadcasting interviews Alliance President Bob Wise on the economic benefits of reducing the high school dropout rate.
