Corporation for Public Broadcasting presents Bob Wise with Thought Leader Award

Alliance president and former West Virginia Governor Bob Wise received the CPB Thought Leader Award from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting late last month. The CPB Thought Leader Award is “given to American leaders who affirm the essential services that public media provides to citizens in areas of education, journalism, and the arts.” Governor Wise felt honored to receive such a prestigious award and thanked CPB for their dedication to free and transparent media.

CPB chose Governor Wise for the Award for championing public media’s American Graduate: Let’s Make it Happen initiative, designed to help students stay in school and receive a high school diploma. CPB president and CEO Patricia Harrison said of Governor Wise:

Governor Wise and the Alliance for Excellent Education are champions for public media’s American Graduate initiative and the educational services that public broadcasting stations provide to their communities. His lifelong commitment to the education of American youth is making a difference, helping more students to graduate from high school ready to succeed in collegeand in their careers.

Sharon Rockefeller, president and CEO of public television station WETA, presented the Award to Governor Wise. After the presentation, Wise spoke alongside Wes Moore, New York Times bestselling author and youth advocate, to public media station managers about the importance of the American Graduate initiative and the need for public media stations to collaborate wtih their communities to focus on education.
