On May 19, the U.S. House Education and Labor Committee will hold another hearing in its series on the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The hearing will explore best practices and research on proven models that work to turn around chronically underperforming schools in communities across the country. The Alliance for Excellent Education has created a “primer” for this hearing that provides useful facts, flaws in current law, and recommendations on how to improve the current federal approach to tackling chronically underperforming schools.
