Afternoon announcements: White House to unveil plan to curb school gun violence

The White House is set to unveil a set of mental health programs and initiatives to curb gun violence today. Some will require Congressional funding. Politics K-12

In New York City, 152,000 students had to find a way to get to school other than their daily school bus. Bus drivers are on strike over job security as of this morning. Huffington Post

Girls’ proficiency with mathematics depends in part on the gender of their early teachers. Women elementary school teachers who are comfortable the subject leave a lasting, positive impact on their female students in the subject area, compared to teachers who are unfamiliar or uncomfortable with it.
