Afternoon Announcements: Obama Unveils His Fiscal Year 2015 Budget

President Obama announced his fiscal year 2015 budget at Powell Elementary School in Washington, DC earlier this week. He praised the school’s early childhood education program. The Washington Post

President Obama’s budget increases spending for the Department of Education by about 2 percent – the largest in any agency besides the Department of Defense. The Washington Post

While the President’s budget increases overall funding to the Department of Education, it cuts funding for formula programs, such as Title 1 grants to districts. Politics K-12

“This budget expands access to the kind of high-quality preschool and other early learning programs to give all of our children… wonderful opportunities,” President Obama said in his speech announcing his budget. Huffington Post
