Afternoon Announcements: NJ Gov. Christie Proposes a Longer School Day

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is proposing a longer school day, in addition to lengthening the school calendar. He is arguing that students who spend more time in school achieve more academically. ABC News

U.S. Representative George Miller, the top democrat on the House education committee, announced his retirement this week. As as leading K-12 education reform advocate, he will be greatly missed in the political education community. Politics K-12

A new study shows that school bullying is still just as much physical as it is verbal. More than 90,000 students end up in the emergency room every year as a result of violence as school. Education Nation uses points, levels, and achievement “bonuses” to encourage kids to learn new words. And it seems to be working!
