Afternoon Announcements: i3 District Winners to Share $135 Million Prize

Save the date for PISA Day! On December 3, the Alliance and nine national education organizations will host a digital event that examines the newest PISA results and their implications for US education policy.

Students in Washington, DC made some of the most significant gains in reading and math achievement in the last two years in the nation on the 2013 National Assessment of Educational Progress, but achievement gaps among white and affluent students and black, white, Hispanic, and low-income students persist. The US Department of Education announced recently that 25 school districts from around the nation will share $135 million in the Investing in Innovation (i3) competition. Individual awards will range from $3 million to $12 million. Politics K-12

“If a student learns faster, I can guide him and he can go even faster; and if a student has difficulties or has been away for a long while, he can be supported,” says Myriam Mazzo who uses a new style of teaching in rural Colombian schools. The New York Times
