The FRS initiative helps district leaders recognize the potential of digital tools and align necessary technologies with instructional goals to support teaching and learning.

Among other critical roles, Future Ready Librarians design collaborative library spaces that enable open-ended exploration, tinkering and making that empower students as creators while serving as digital learning coaches who work side by side with teachers.

This week a team of school district leaders traveled to Madison for the regional Future Ready Schools Leadership Summit. While the School District of the Menomonie Area (SDMA) is well known as a progressive school district in our area, there is more that we can do to provide our children with a 21st Century learning experience.
Today, Alliance for Excellent Education President Bob Wise announced that more than 2,000 school district leaders, representing 16 million students, have taken the Future Ready District Pledge to personalize learning for students using effective digital learning strategies. Additionally, Wise said seventeen states have committed to developing a statewide program to support school district leaders in using Future Ready Schools resources, including an interactive planning dashboard, for this digital transformation. Wise made the announcement at a White House event featuring the release of the National Education Technology Plan.

Being Future Ready is about more than just signing a pledge or attending an event. It’s about taking measurable, sometimes scary, steps toward a digital future that is still very much uncertain, according to speakers at a recent ISTE panel discussion on the topic, “Is Your District Future Ready?” The Future Ready effort, championed by the Department of Education and the Alliance for Excellent Education, hopes to permanently intertwine digital connectivity and learning in schools by getting administrators to think more broadly (and critically) about technology, PD, and the curriculum they use.
