March 13 is Digital Learning Day, and tomorrow is Pi Day (and Tau Beta Pi Day, for all you Engineering Honor Society friends). Despite different names, they all celebrate education in the digital, math, and engineering realms, respectively. In the spirit of these three days, I want to highlight four excellent online math, science, and computer science resources for teachers.

Held the Friday prior to Spring Break, Digital Learning Day provided opportunities for students to explore STEM experiences throughout the school day. Students took part in a variety of STEM courses, including: coding, architecture, engineering, and geology instruction. The day provided access to challenging content, opportunities for learning anytime and anywhere, and individualized instruction to ensure all students reach their full potential to succeed. The event was hosted by the school’s PTA and included several community volunteers.

Today, March 13th marks Digital Learning Day 2015. Across the globe teachers and educators are embracing technology and sharing it with students in their classrooms and online. The aim of digital learning day is to highlight the effect Digital Learning can have, increasing the educational opportunities of students who have the chance to embrace it in their every day learning.
Students from Valparaiso’s Central Elementary took part in the school’s third annual Digital Learning Day. The nationwide day of digital celebration shows how effective teaching and great technology combine to have a positive impact on America’s schools. Grades 3-5 were taught the basics of Scratch - An Introduction to Coding, while grades K-2 worked to learn and make iMovies.

Friday marks Digital Learning Day across Virginia. The event promotes new methods of teaching and they're being introduced into your child's classroom. Laptops and tablets are being used to help students collaborate on assignments and receive feedback instantly from teachers. Right now, the program is being tested on more than 1,100 students in eight middle school classrooms across Rockingham County.
On Friday, Angola High School students studied with a famous music composer, traveled to France and shared their experiences with technology — all from within the school walls. Friday was Digital Learning Day. In concert with students and teachers across the country, Metropolitan School District of Steuben County classrooms put a focus on web-based learning.

Bethel Park High School physics teacher Lee Cristofano knows what people think when students attend Physics Day at Kennywood — it's an excuse for a field trip. But his students turned last year's trip into an award-winning technology video by using a GoPro camera and smartphones. “Let's be honest, it is fun. But there's no reason the kids shouldn't be learning too,” Cristofano said Friday after giving a presentation on using GoPro cameras in the classroom during Digital Learning Day at Allegheny Intermediate Unit.
