EducationSuperHighway and the Alliance for Excellent Education (All4Ed) announced a partnership to promote the ninth annual Digital Learning Day (DLDay). The partnership will launch with a campaign that showcases short stories – one for each state – about schools removing barriers, saving time, and improving outcomes for students by embracing digital learning.
On Digital Learning Day, Feb. 22 next year, the museum will be airing the webcast Fighting for the Right to Fight, which tells the story of how African Americans in the war effort pursued a double victory: over the Axis powers abroad, but also over cruel injustice and discrimination at home.
"Every child deserves that high-quality access to devices, Wi-Fi and content," said Thomas C. Murray, state and district digital learning director at the Alliance for Excellent Education. In St. Paul, Ark., Principal Duerr spent the last four years turning around a school that was on a state improvement plan and nearly closed. She grew up in this small-town area and left a suburban job to make a difference in her rural community.
When Principal Daisy Dyer Duerr came to St. Paul in 2011, St. Paul High School was on the verge of being taken over by the state. Students were not meeting state expectations in math or literacy. “We choose to live in this area, but we don’t choose for our kids to have any less of an education because of where we live,” Duerr said. Duerr believed technology could help turn around the school. Through several grants, the principal transformed traditional classrooms into digital learning spaces.
