March 16, 2015Given that Friday, March 13, is the official Digital Learning Day hosted by the Alliance for Excellent Education, with a focus on policy and practice related to digital learning in schools, it's appropriate that's what's trending this week is Fast Company's Sector Forecast, 5 Big Ways Education Will Change by 2020. I wonder if the FastCo article's timeliness was a coincidence? Here's what resonated most with me (and I hope you'll share below your own reflections as well):

At Mukwonago High School, every day is Digital Learning Day In the News
March 16, 2015Somebody proclaimed that Friday was national Digital Learning Day. I admit I didn't really tune in to my emails and tweets about this. But I have tuned in a couple times lately to what is going on at Mukwonago High School, where you could call every day digital learning day. Or, more specifically, information technology learning day. Three certified computer science teachers, 185 students in computer science classes (out of a student body of about 1,600), and, coming next year, the launch of an Information Technology Academy within the school that will build on what is already in place.

March 16, 2015Schools and students across the country observed Friday (March 13, 2015) as national Digital Learning Day. So it was no surprise that Pottsgrove High School – whose principal, Dr. Bill Ziegler, was recently honored as among this year’s top three digital administrators in the U.S. – also played a significant role in marking the day.

Mountainview holds Digital Learning Day In the News
March 16, 2015Textbooks and worksheets took a backseat role Friday, March 13, as Mountainview Elementary School took part in National Digital Learning Day. Principal Karen Collins said the school hosted a “No Paper and Pencil Day” back in 2011 to sharpen the students’ skills with computer technology. However, it caught the attention of the Alliance for Excellent Education, a Washington, D.C.–based national policy and advocacy organization, and the first National Digital Learning Day was held at schools across the country the following year.

March 16, 2015March 13 is Digital Learning Day, and tomorrow is Pi Day (and Tau Beta Pi Day, for all you Engineering Honor Society friends). Despite different names, they all celebrate education in the digital, math, and engineering realms, respectively. In the spirit of these three days, I want to highlight four excellent online math, science, and computer science resources for teachers.

March 16, 2015Held the Friday prior to Spring Break, Digital Learning Day provided opportunities for students to explore STEM experiences throughout the school day. Students took part in a variety of STEM courses, including: coding, architecture, engineering, and geology instruction. The day provided access to challenging content, opportunities for learning anytime and anywhere, and individualized instruction to ensure all students reach their full potential to succeed. The event was hosted by the school’s PTA and included several community volunteers.
