Digital Learning Day provides an opportunity for districts, such as District 100, to highlight great teaching practices, showcase innovative teachers and leaders, and promote the effective use of technology to improve the learning experience in our schools.

Digital Learning Day is a huge national initiative run by the Alliance for Excellence in Education. Started in 2012, Digital Learning Day has provided a powerful venue for education leaders to highlight great teaching practice and showcase innovative teachers, leaders and instructional technology programs that are improving student outcomes. This grassroots effort blossomed into a massive nationwide celebration, as teachers realized that Digital Learning Day is not about just technology, but also about learning, and enhancing the role of the teacher in America’s classrooms. Digital Learning Day promotes the effective use of modern tools afforded to every other industry in order to improve the learning experience in K-12 public schools.

This past week, our school celebrated Digital Learning "Week" in honor of Digital Learning Day that was on Friday, March 13. On Sunday, I sent out a challenge to our staff I challenged our teachers and staff to complete 3 of the activities on the flyer, and they would be entered into a drawing for an iTunes or Starbucks giftcard. One of our teachers emailed the link to her Pinterest board Sunday night! I was pumped and hoped that this was the start to many teachers participating in the challenge.

Technology’s role in schools includes connecting the informational dots, capturing and reflecting on student artifacts and helping teachers personalize their approaches.
