Digital Learning and Future Ready Schools

Future Ready

Digital learning is any instructional practice that effectively uses technology to strengthen a student’s learning experience. It emphasizes high-quality instruction and provides access to challenging content, feedback through formative assessment, opportunities for learning anytime and anywhere, and individualized instruction to ensure all students reach their full potential to succeed in college and a career. Digital learning encompasses many different facets, tools, and applications to support and empower teachers and students, including online courses, blended or hybrid learning, or digital content and resources.

Future Ready Schools® (FRS) is a bold effort to maximize digital learning opportunities and help school districts move quickly toward preparing students for success in college, a career, and citizenship. FRS provides districts with free resources and support to ensure that digital learning plans align with instructional best practices, are implemented by highly trained teachers, and lead to personalized learning experiences for all students, particularly those from traditionally underserved communities.

FRS resources are open to leadership teams from school districts where the superintendent has signed the Future Ready District Pledge—a commitment to implement meaningful changes toward a digital learning transition that supports teachers and addresses the district’s vision for student learning. After committing to the pledge, districts receive free access to summits, workshops, a planning framework and interactive planning tools, vast and deep resources, and ongoing professional learning opportunities through virtual events, mentoring, and regional networking.

The Alliance for Excellent Education is leading this effort with the support of a vast coalition of more than sixty national and regional organizations.

In addition to FRS, the Alliance also leads Digital Learning Day, an annual nationwide celebration that the Alliance created in 2012 to highlight great teaching and demonstrate how technology can improve student outcomes. Learn more at www.DigitalLearningDay.org.
