Lindsay Unified School District in California is changing the paradigm of learning from “seat time,” or how long students spend in the classroom, to competency-based learning. The latter allows students to learn at their own pace and earn credits as they master concepts. The Wall Street Journal

DC Public Schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson issued a proposal to expand a pilot program that allows low-performing schools to extend their school days. WAMU

The US Department of State rejected South Carolina’s request for a waiver that would have allowed them to administer assessments aligned with the ACT versus state tests. Politics K-12

Philadelphia schools superintendent plans to open three unconventional high schools next year. The schools will feature project-based instruction models. Education Week
